Programs for Teens

EAC teen programs provide information about financial skills that will be needed after high school using a by teens for teens perspective.

Get Real: Financial Decisions in the Real World (Financial Education Program)

The EAC signature teen financial education curriculum, Get Real: Financial Decisions in the Real World uses videos from teens and young adults discussing their financial successes and challenges as well as hands on activities to teach teens financial skills.  Topics covered include setting financial goals, managing your paycheck, budgeting, banking, saving and credit.

This program is now available for request from teachers, volunteers, youth leaders and parents. Curriculum sets include all of the resources needed to lead this program including: the Get Real DVD, student workbook, training guidebook, receipt boxes, financial checklist bookmarks, credit commitment contracts and more.

On the Money (Youth Financial Education Publication)

The EAC has partnered with True Star Magazine, the Chicago Public Library and the City Treasurer of Chicago to publish On the Money, a by teens for teens youth financial education publication. On the Money is written entirely by teen journalists and covers topics such as personal finance, business and entrepreneurship. The magazine has a quarterly circulation of 2,000 youth and select articles reach over 20,000 readers in the Chicago area. A limited number of copies of On the Money are available by request or issues can be downloaded from our website on our Resources Page.

Young Illinois Saves

The Young Illinois Saves movement is a collaborative effort to increase teen and young adult saving in the State of Illinois. The Young Illinois Saves movement is one of the first statewide financial literacy campaigns for teens and young adults. The Young Illinois Saves movement is spearheaded by a number of planning partners including: the Illinois State Treasurer, the City Treasurer of Chicago, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the Consumer Federation of America, the Economic Awareness Council, State of Illinois 4H, the Chicago Public Schools and the University of Illinois.

The Young Illinois Saves program motivates teens and young adults to save using trained volunteers to present financial literacy information related to the need to save, the benefits of saving and how to save (budgeting). The program makes saving easy through its bank partnerships and incentives for students to take action by making saving commitments and beginning to save.
