About Us

The Economic Awareness Council is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to prepare students and families for the economic and financial decisions they will make both today and tomorrow. Meeting the needs of families and youth with limited resources is emphasized. The EAC served over 11,000 individuals in 2010.

Objectives include educating students & families about the basics of saving, budgeting, banking, credit, investing, business and entrepreneurship as well as empowering individuals to set and reach their financial goals. The EAC provides financial and economic education to students from kindergarten through college and their families.

EAC programs and materials are relevant and appropriate for children and young adults because they rely on real life examples, stories, and peer based information youth can really use. This approach gets results. One hundred percent of teachers using our programs agreed that their students "learned more about economics and finance in their EAC program" and over 9 out of 10 teen and young adult participants agree that they "learned something new in EAC programs".

The EAC leads the Young Illinois Saves initiative in partnership with the Consumer Federation of America and America Saves.  The EAC also produces On the Money, a by-teens, for-teens financial and business focused magazine that is distributed to over 4,000 Chicago Public School students 3 times a year.

EAC programs and materials are designed to effectively convey key concepts regarding financial literacy, economics, banking, basic finance, checking, saving, budgeting, and money as well as other financial and economics topics for ages ranging from kids through adults.
